Hello Students, Family and Friends of Room 8. I am thrilled to welcome you and your child to a loving, fun and academically challenging year of 1st grade. This is a big year for young learners who are transitioning into the academic world of reading, writing and mathematics. These are the foundational skills that will guide them in school for the rest of each student's life, so be prepared to work hard with your child to ensure success.....but have fun as well!! The greatest advice I could offer each family would be to take the time to read with your child every day. The more experience and support they receive from parents and adults, the greater their confidence and ability will build in no time at all.
Room 8 is given homework packets every MONDAY and returns FRIDAY. Homework may be completed all at once or in small amounts per day. It all depends on what works best for you and and your student.
All students are expected to arrive to school on time. If your child is late, please send them to the office for a late slip. If your child is sick or absent, please remember to send a note so that the school may document it. Unexcused absences do appear on student files so please keep this in mind.
Please remember that students are expected to arrive each day in COMMON DRESS. If your child does not have appropriate attire, a note will be sent home asking for correction, followed by a phone call. Please be proactive and make sure you have clean Common dress attire as well as weather appropriate clothing for heat and cold.
Book Bags and Yellow Folders are sent home on Wednesdays. Please make sure to check your child's backpack on these days for important information directed to parents. Bookbags should be returned Wednesdays as well.
Room 8 does not allow toys, candy or sugery sweet treats. If there are any questions or concerns, please contact Ms. Dickenson by phone or email.
I look forward to a wonderful year with the smiling faces of Room 8. Go Busy Bees!!!
Much love,
Ms. Dickenson
